March blew out with some rain and wind. I left for Atlanta and Asheville on April 1 for one giant art date with my friend Patti, the SnowQueen. We had been planning this “Birthdaycation” for a year!
It took me ten hours of driving to get to Patti’s. The next day we drove 3 hours to Asheville and checked into our home away from home, Watauga Woods, a cozy, comfortable airbnb.
Patti had a beautiful bedroom with walls painted by our hostess, Brenda and I had a hideaway on the sunporch… my treehouse room with three walls of windows and plants all around.
There were restaurants nearby, big beautiful homes with flowering front yards and towering trees and a little lending library!
When were weren’t roaming around Asheville galleries, art studios, bookstores and restaurants, we were on the porch with our own little art fest going on…
My husband Bill Fishbourne will be showing his photos at the Fine Arts Festival of Manatee County in Bradenton Florida. Come by and say hi if you can!
I haven’t really taken myself on an Art Date (highly recommended by Julia Cameron of the Artist’s Way) for quite awhile, at least not one by myself. I went over to St. Petersburg, FL to see the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Dali Museum on the waterfront. It was well worth the $10 parking fee and $17 ticket to see it… paintings, drawings and photos with lots of great explanation. I followed with a tapas lunch in the museum and a visit to the gardens. Then I went on to Whim-so-Doodle just see what was new and hit a big sale… fill your shopping bag from their bargain tables for just $25. Now that was fun. I got papers and paints and stamps and washi tapes. On to the Chihuly Glass Museum in its new location. It’s quite a bit larger and very modern. I stopped into the Morean Arts Center across the street to see the Photography exhibit and then went on to Haslam’s Used Bookstore. Whew! I was a happy and inspired woman after all that!
I must’ve really enjoyed myself, because 3 days later I took myself into Hyde Park and breezed through Anthro, Papyrus, West Elm, PB and a new store call Moon Scapes. Not a lot of shopping but a big input of inspiration. I must make a note to do this more often. I get too bogged down in my own little world sometimes. What will you do on your next Artist Date? Please let me know!
I am teaching another One Word & Magic Mandalas Workshop tomorrow at 10am at the Creative Artist Gallery, 933 E Brandon Blvd, Brandon FL, 863-514-0223. Come and join the fun!
I have a new email and now you can find all my online connections in one place… links are on the bottom of my home page at LyndaFishbourne.com
I’ll be leading a workshop this weekend at Shore Bliss Yoga in Apollo Beach, FL. We’ll be doing walking meditations, writing, finding our own personal word and drawing magic mandalas to help us manifest our intentions for the year. It’ll be much more fun than make a goals list or a bunch of resolutions that will be hard to keep.
I can’t believe it’s been soooooo long since I wrote here. All I can say is “the holidays!” So far it’s been wonderful and there’s more fun to have, but some things like blogging and painting and creating have fallen by the wayside for visiting, cooking, decorating, celebrating and so much more. We did take a little time out and went for a walk around the neighborhood Christmas morning. It was quiet and I found these little treasures. We heard a Barned Owl and I found the little owl feather too. I’ve been taking small vignette photos around the house and you can see them on my Instagram. Just search for ladyfishpirate. Have a wonderful New Year everyone. Cheers!
Now I just need to go into production, making copies, hole punching, and binding (still thinking about that). We got a quote at a quick printer but the cost was high per piece, so I am going to do a limited edition off my own printer and bind them myself. Each month has a different watercolor flower with a short love note from me to you. Major holidays are noted and so are the full moon, new moon and solstice. The size is 8.5″ x 10.5″ on 110# recycled white card stock. I have been wanting to do something like this for years and years. It feels good to have finally accomplished it! YAY!
