From the studio – Life goes on

earthforestpainting

A new painting that came out of nowhere after many layers and many transitions. I was all over the place on this one, stalled for days, weeks at a time. But now I have come out at the other end of the dark tunnel. Some things are definitely looking better. I made a Manifest Abundance Mandala, a high-five hamsa hand of sorts that visualizes/crystalizes my artsy thoughts and so now I have a plan for the rest of 2016 in terms of what I want to accomplish, and I am painting again without too much struggle.

Not all is perfect in paradise though. I didn’t get accepted to a new Art Festival I wanted to be in AND I didn’t sell any of my door paintings at the Creative Artist’s Gallery Show that I was in. I am not going to let it get me down. It’s FALL and a brand new season, although you wouldn’t know it here in Florida! I always feel energized in fall! How is your year going?

Art for Appetizers – In the studio

Ahh… took time to clean the studio table and get a little more organized. It feels good, as if I swept the cobwebs from my brain! I am sticking to my sketch/watercolor-a-day and started some new 8″x10″ paintings. The “Remembering” collages linger along with me as I go. I feel somewhat more motivated since I am contemplating selling at some Art Festivals next year. I haven’t done that in years and years. It can be a lot of work, but it’s very rewarding on many levels.

Life is a dream lately… so much abundance! My cup runs over with good things these last two weeks. I am so grateful… that I have started 29 Gifts in 29 Days as a way to give back. Today I am going to Drum, Dance, Yoga & Chill, a workshop to benefit Kelly Andrew’s African /Relief Trip and Climb for the Cause… and my gift today is a painting for the raffle. Come on out to Lakeland if you can! It’s sure be be a blast… https://www.facebook.com/events/1569701256601599/

hOMe to earth and sky – Nature’s Mandala

I’ve been working away on my 8″ x 10″ series of mandala paintings with a big canvas (36″ x 48″) resting on my easel. This week it finally found its voice. I am not totally sure it is finished, but it hangs on the wall now. I will stare at it and the answer will come. It’s going to get busy around here for a couple of weeks with visitors escaping the snowy north lands… my journal pages continue and now I am doing a “Sketchbook Diet” inspired by Liz Steele and drawing every meal before I enjoy it. It’s quite fun and really makes me aware of what’s really going into my body. I will share some of those pages soon. The weekend is coming! Enjoy it. I see Art Festivals and Museum visits in my near future… and of course more mandalas.

From my journal – I see a painting in my future!

Journal01.29.2015LR

I finally mailed my Sketchbook Project, a Pen Pal painting off to Brooklyn where it will go on to find a painting pen pal for me. The 4″ x 4″ canvas arrived in the small bag above with two notes, one to send along with my painting to my future pen pal and one with instructions. It was quite simple to do and fun, fun, fun! I made it like a postcard with a cancelled postage stamp and one word message. that’s a copy of the painting on the right journal page… I’ll let you know what comes back to me in the mail. If anyone out there wants to do something like this with me, a painting/art exchange, let me know! I LOVE to get letters and little surprise packages in the mail.

Things I love – A letter in the mail with colorful stamps!

There’s nothing like getting a surprise handwritten letter in the mail from far away. It’s a special moment in time when someone you know (and love) has shared their thoughts, a part of their life and their ideas with you. Email works, but it’s not handwritten… pen to paper… tactile and interactive as you pull your little present of precious words and pictures from its traveling envelope. I just finished this 16″ x 16″ painting that has collaged bits of letters I have received and some postage stamps that I cancelled myself… with my own handwriting included in the background. I am thinking of writing a letter and putting it in an envelope attached to the back of the painting.  There’s a group art show coming up at the Hall Gallery in Sarasota, “Things you love” and I may enter this painting. Next, I am off to paint another Magical Mandala and write some letters. My wish for you is some unexpected love in your mailbox today!
