Whew! Hard to believe Thanksgiving weekend is really winding down. It’s been special. I’ve also been working on two workshops: Mandala Magic with Julie Gibbons and Creative+Practice with Lisa Sonora.
Here’s one of the watercolor mandalas I did:
AND here’s the cover and 2 inside pages of my new “Map Book” sketchbook for Creative+Practice. It used to be plain black!
From my journal – More Play Book Fun
The spiral of life… mandalas… circles… they keep appearing as if sending me a message I cannot yet decipher. What messages are coming to you?
“Each persons life is like a mandala, a vast limitless circle. We stand in the center of our circle, and everything we see, hear and think forms the mandala of our life. – Pema Chodron

The note to myself in the front of this book comes from Joe Garcia, author of The WaterColor Bible..
“Take your sketchbook seriously; it will help you in every aspect of your art. Keep and date your sketches and watch your improvement. Your sketches can be the foundation of future pairings and will add freshness to your studio work.”
Well, I have been thinking about this a lot because I am rather stalled in my studio work… that’s my larger pieces… the works on canvas, but I have really been enjoying the freedom and spontaneity I achieve in my play book and my journal. Also reading the blog posts on patenting process from Nicolas Wilton have been spurring me to let loose, paint over, don’t overthink. And that’s exactly what I have been doing! Over thinking? Yikes! Are you over thinking, or do you feel free and easy with your work. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one that struggles with this…. when it should be fun – and not a struggle.

Note to myself – Visualize Change… You’re ready to switch mindsets, but change is uncomfortable. Take your focus off thinking about the possibility of failure and view your life as an experimental process. That way it’s easier to overcome challenges
From my journal – Moon Pages
An advantage of insomnia is that you are awake to see the Blood Moon and the Eclipse at 5:30am! There were a lot of clouds and fog but it made the eclipse seem all that much more mysterious… from October 8.
